New rules on entering Switzerland

as of January 21, 2022

The information provided is for guidance only.  Further details may be found in Swiss Federal Office of Public Health site

Am I allowed to enter Switzerland?

To see what rules apply to your own particular situation when entering Switzerland, consult the online Travelcheck.

Tip on page 3 of the travel checker: click ‘I have the right to ‘’freedom of movement’ when coming from EU/EFTA country; click ‘Other’ when coming from other country.

Click here to open online TRAVELCHECK.

A printout or screenshot of Travelcheck does not automatically entitle you to enter Switzerland. You must be able to provide official documents to prove that you meet the applicable entry requirements (travel documents, visa). You'll find more information in the FAQ on entering Switzerland.

Test requirement

Fully vaccinated or recovered from COVID.  If you can prove this with a valid COVID certificate, then you are exempt from the test requirement on boarding and on entry to Switzerland.  Note that the airline or long-distance bus company can nevertheless demand a test on boarding. For this reason, you should find out directly from the airline or long-distance bus company what rules they apply.

Not fully vaccinated or recovered from COVID.  You are subject to the test requirement on boarding and on entry to Switzerland.

Can I enter Switzerland with a foreign Covid certificate?

You have a valid EU Digital COVID Certificate (EU-DCC).  This is valid in Switzerland.   Certificates from other  countries and regions that are also recognized in the country  (countries where IQNET Partners are present): Serbia, Turkey, Uruguay.

You are vaccinated abroad and do not have an EU Digital COVID Certificate.  You can apply for a Swiss COVID certificate. You’ll find everything you need to know on this page How to get Swiss COVID Certificate and how long it is valid.

Entry Form

A requirement for all.  An entry form must be presented when entering Switzerland.  This also applies to people who have been vaccinated or have recovered from COVID. Please note that the entry form can be completed at the earliest 48 hours before entry.

Fill out the electronic entry form on a computer or smartphone before you enter Switzerland. As soon as you have filled out the online form, you’ll be emailed a QR code as confirmation. Keep this code handy for inspection when you arrive in Switzerland. During these checks, you can show the QR code on your smartphone or a printed confirmation. If you have not filled out the entry form despite the obligation to do so, the controlling authority can punish you with a CHF 100 fine. The same applies if you provide false information on the form.  Fill up entry form here.

Quarantine requirement

There are currently no countries on the list of countries with a variant of concern. Thus, there's no quarantine requirement for people arriving in Switzerland at present.

Ready to book your flights?

Would be best to consult your travel agent when arranging flights.  Please also consider the rules of the country where you’ll travel in the past ten days – even just for transit.

It’s not only the entry requirements that can differ depending on your destination country. Different regulations may also apply to your connecting flight. Obtain information from all the airlines you are travelling with.

Increased checks can lead to longer waiting times at the airport. Find out in advance by consulting your departure airport’s website and allow more time than usual for departure and after landing.
